EA for Route Designation on the Apalachicola National Forest Just Released

The Apalachicola National Forest has just released their Route Designation Environmental Assessment (EA) for public review and comment. The EA is out for a 30 day comment period beginning on July 26, 2007.

The FS is hosting an informational open house to answer questions about the EA.
The open house will be held on July 30, 2007, at the Ft. Braden Community Center, 16387 Blountstown Highway, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Maps and other info are available at the Ranger Stations in Bristol and Crawfordville and at the Supervisor's Office in Tallahassee. The info is also available on the FS's website at: At this time Alternative D is identified as the preferred alternative.

This plan will limit all vehicle use to designated routes (if it's not on the map, it's CLOSED) so it is very important that you send written comments. The Apalachicola is planning to immediately implement the final decision, which is expected later this summer.

Written comments on this proposal should be sent to:
District Ranger
57 Taff Drive
Crawfordville, Florida 32327

You can email your comments to:

Your comments need to be as specific as possible and contain the following:
(1) Name, address, and (if possible) telephone number; (the FS usually discards anonymous comments)
(2) Title of the proposal on which comment is being submitted; and
(3) Specific facts or comments along with supporting reasons that you believe the Responsible Official should consider in reaching the decision.

For more information about the project, call Cathy Briggs, Recreation Manager/Landscape Architect at (850) 926-3561 ext 6509 or by email to
