In 2006, BF Goodrich Tires, United Four Wheel Drive Associations, and Tread Lightly! sponsored the inaugural Top Trails Program.  Five trails were selected that represent scenic beauty, 4x4 challenge, and most important, involvement by a sponsoring organization to maintain the trail for 4x4 recreation opportunity.  The sponsoring organization received a check from BF Goodrich Tires in the amount of $3,500 to help offset their expenses of maintaining the trail.

BFG is committed to sponsoring the Top Trails Program for 2007.  And, UFWDA will be a partner with BFG during the selection of five more Top Trails to receive recognition.

Now is the time for you to nominate YOUR favorite trail.  Nominate your favorite trail not only for the challenge aspect, but also for the overall benefit of the average 4x4 owner having an opportunity to engage 4x4 and enjoy a fun family time.

Many UFWDA member organizations participate in some level of Adopt-A-Road or trail maintenance activity.  These are the trails we are looking for.  While scenic and challenging add to the overall thrill of experience, the important criteria is honoring an organization that cares about maintaining the recreation opportunity.

UFWDA has a member organization in almost every state.  BFG's goal is to recognize a trail in every sate.  I would like to provide a list of trails and sponsoring organizations that can be reviewed by the selection committee.  BFG wants to move forward with five more trails for 2007 (plus one Canadian trail) and have an additional group ready for the following year.

Many people have commented about the lack of involvement by industry in support of 4x4 recreation.  Here is one major member of the industry stepping up and participating to help keep trails open.  It is your opportunity to participate.

Please forward your trail recommendations to John Stewart, Director of Environmental Affairs, landuse@ufwda.org, by November 1, 2006.
