Today is the Comments Meeting held in Salt Lake City UT at 6PM.   U4WDA and member clubs have organized a "trail ride" to the State Capitol along the way for those attending the meeting.  Over 100 street legal trail rigs are planned to participate, TV Media coverage is planned too.  Attendees are receiving this fact sheet to help clarify some of the details of each option in the RMP.

Please distribute this to your memebers so that they may incorporate it in thier individual comments...

thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve, it appears that the comments needed to be in by 3 Oct, is that correct? If you've an update on how the trip to the hearing went etc I'd be happy to run it in UFWDA e-News.

It was the lead story on Fox News - and they have been airing the story on subsequent newcasts the following day...

There were 94 attendees in 82 rigs that participated in a 'organized trail ride' to the Utah State Capitol before attending the Moab RMP public comment meeting at the Salt Lake County Library.  The rigs and participants met at Crawlers, and registered for the event.  Antenna ribbons, participant numbers were placed on vehicles and last minute instructions were provided before State Street traffic was blocked so the vehicles could enter the main route through Salt Lake City to the Capitol.  The caravan stretched for miles, was orderly and respectful of other traffic wanting to merge and pass through.

After passing through the Capitol parking complex, the caravan finished the ride at the Library and gathered outside the front entrance where we were breifed on the RMP comment process and how we as a collective group can make the most of our efforts.

We were met with some uneasy looks - with the Police in a visible presence at the entrance and inside the meeting room - but the group was professional, polite and respectful,  not even a raised voice was heard.    Questions were asked, comments were made, maps scrutinized and trails questioned to the BLM staff on hand.  At the end, we realized that there is a lot at stake here - many of our favorite trails are not listed on the maps.  And had I not attended, I would not have discovered that one of the nations ten best hunting area's for Deer and Elk may be lost forever along with motorized access.

Overall...  we greatly outnumbered the various groups who want to close our access in attendance, but I hope that our large turnout can shift the balance of 'big money groups" that are working hard to close access to our public lands.
