The New Zealand Department of Conservation, who administer over 1/3 of NZ land through 15 regional conservancy areas, are in the process of reviewing the statutory Conservation Management Strategy (CMS) documents for each region. These CMS's have a life of 10 years supposedly but already several existing ones have been unilaterally extended by several years.
If activities are not described as being allowed within a conservancy by its CMS then it will not be permitted.
It is essential that four wheel drive activity is included in every CMS as an option.
Information on the process can be found at www.doc.govt.nz/templates/summary.aspx?id=39112
There is usually a period of general surveying of opinion and then the document draft is prepared for formal comment.
An updated overall list of CMS activity as of April 2008 has been added to www.nzfwda.org.nz
