CAMPING AT OAK RIDGE:

It is primitive camping in the infield of the horse race track.
There are no RV hookups available.
RVs and campers are allowed, however any type of camper, RV, whatever you call it, that contains a water-flushed toilet, AND a lavatory, AND a shower AND a kitchen sink, are PROHIBITED.

Water is available on site.
Porta potties will be provided.
Grey water disposal tanks will be provided.
Trash dumpster will be provided.
No showers will be provided.

Phil and I are staying here:

http://www.crabtreefallscampground.com/

about 14 (?) miles from Oak ridge the people have been very nice to work with and it looks like a great place to camp.

We've camped at crabtree falls for camp jeep before.  It is an o.k. place to camp, but be prepared, the drive is uphill both ways Smiley.  Billie Jeanne

So it's 14 miles... and about 60 minutes, right? Roll Eyes  Thanks for the heads up.

That's OK we are looking forward to a little quieter environment and some hiking and exploring as well.

RVs are allowed.  We have one county stipulation we have to follow concerning their amenities.  While not perfect, this is a huge improvement over last year's Wheel-in where ther was no on site camping.   It is nice that we get to camp on site, in the thick of the activities this year.  It will be a good time.

I hear Marti has had computer issues this week.  Let's give her through the weekend to get that straight and get back on here.

One shouldn't automatically assume so much.  They may have no choice due to state/local regulations.

So, since my truck camper contains a water-flushed toilet, AND a lavatory, AND a kitchen sink BUT not a shower head, I assume it is allowed.  Since the shower for the truck camper is a simple hose with head coming directly from the faucet, this is real easy to remove and cap, which in essence removes the shower function.  Grin

OK, now that we're splitting hairs, I have to ask - what the heck is the difference between a flush toilet AND a lavatory?  I thought they were the same thing.  If not, perhaps we don't have both and can bring our toy hauler after all  Shocked

Eric,

Yes, with only three of the four, your RV is fine to come and camp at the Wheel-in.

Billie Jeanne,

In this particular case, a lavatory is a sink in the bathroom.

All,
I hope this helps. We are pretty lucky that we will be allowed to camp there this year because we were not allowed last year. We are sorry that there are so many rules and regulations and it is a correct statement that we have to follow the rules and regulations set up by the county. They are not rules and regulations made by UFWDA or Oak Ridge Estate.

Thank you and see you all at the Wheel-in!!

Thanks
Marti

Dang - we just had to buy the camper with the sink in the bathroom!!!

Marti - don't apologize.  I'm not blaming anyone for the rules, just hate that we can't stay where everyone else is staying - that's all.  No problem.  Billie Jeanne
