Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks officials recently announced a new round of funding for two trails grant programs. The application deadline is July 1 for grants from both the Recreational Trails Program (RTP) and the Off-Highway Vehicle Program (OHV). RTP and OHV program applicants can include federal, state, county or municipal agencies, private associations and clubs (not individuals).
Eligible projects for RTP include: development of urban trail linkages near homes and work places; construction and maintenance of trails; development of trailside and trailhead facilities; ethics education and interpretive programs; and, weed control along trails and trailhead areas.
OHV eligible projects include, but are not limited to: maintenance of existing OHV trails; signing; ethics education; noxious weed control adjacent to OHV trails; enforcement and route mapping.
Information on applying for Recreational Trails Program grants and OHV grants is available on the FWP Web site at fwp.mt.gov on the Recreation page under Grants.
Applicants may also attend a grant-writing training session at one of the following dates and locations.
Kalispell - Tuesday, March 29, 7-9 PM, FWP Headquarters, 490 North Meridian Rd.
Bozeman - Tuesday, March 29, 7-9 PM, FWP Headquarters, 1400 South 19th Ave.
Missoula - Wednesday, March 30, 7-9 PM, FWP Headquarters, 3201 Spurgin Rd.
Helena - Saturday, April 2, 9-11 AM, FWP Headquarters, 1420 E. 6th Avenue (with live video-conference option to Regions 4, 5, 6 and 7)
FWP is also offering a Recreational Trails Program Reimbursement Training Session from 11:30-2:30 PM on Saturday, April 2 with live video-conferencing to all seven FWP regional offices. Participants should plan to bring a sack lunch if they are planning to attend both training sessions. The reimbursement training session will be hosted live in Helena at FWP Headquarters directly after the grant-writing training session in the Commission Rooms.
