The Wisconsin Off-Highway Vehicle Association (WOHVA) and the State of Wisconsin, Department of Natural Resources (DNR) formally signed an Outdoor Recreation Aids Grant Agreement earlier this week (August 22nd, 2011).
The grant allows WOHVA to utilize federal Recreational Trails Act grant funding to rehabilitate the access to The Pipeline 4X4 Trail (Forest Service Road #55552) at Forest Service Road #904385. Both roads are located in the eastern most region of the Laona/Lakewood Ranger District of the Chequamegon/Nicolet National Forest (CNNF). This grant project will include repairing the current access, making it capable of handling heavy equipment, thus allowing said equipment an access point to areas of The Pipeline located between weight restricting bridges.
This grant (RTA-466-10) has a Total Project Cost of $19,750. The period covered by the grant begins August 17th, 2011 running through June 30th, 2013. WOHVA’s first Pipeline Grant Trail Workday is scheduled for September 24th. Additional information on this (and all WOHVA’s Pipeline Grant Trail Workdays) is available in the “Events & Trail Rides” section of WOHVA’s General Public Forums.
This is the first in a series of grants which WOHVA’s hopes to use in facilitating the rehabilitation of The Pipeline 4X4 Trail. When the series is completed, the rehabilitation should serve to assure not only the long-term sustainability of The Pipeline 4X4 Trail but also the continued recreational access by motorized recreationists to the trail.
WOHVA would like to thank the DNR for their assistance in securing this grant, as well as staffers at CNNF, WOHVA sponsors (who have donated finances, equipment & materials) and our legion of WOHVA volunteers!
