Bills Introduced in House and Senate to Protect OHV Access to Cape Hatteras National Seashore Recreational Area: Hearing Scheduled.
Please click the Take Action link below to encourage your Members of Congress to support and cosponsor H.R. 819 and S. 486. These bills would reinstate the Interim Management Plan for Species Management on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore Recreational Area. What this means is that the Consent Decree that severely restricts OHV access to Hatteras would be set aside. The Consent Decree is a result of a lawsuit settlement resulting from a case brought by Defenders of Wildlife and The National Audubon Society represented by the Southern Environmental Law Center.
It is important to weigh in today as the House Natural Resources Committee, Subcommittee on Public Lands and Environmental Regulation has scheduled a hearing on H.R. 819 on March 14th
While this opportunity is in North Carolina, it is important that everyone weigh in to help ensure that this important recreation area is not lost, particularly as the science behind the issue supports continued access. Tomorrow it may be OHV access in your state that is being threatened.
