May 10, 2016

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Barstow Field Office, recently announced the dates, times, and locations of several public meetings to provide input in the development of a Rasor Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Area Management Plan.

The California Desert Conservation Area (CDCA) Plan of 1980 identified the Rasor Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Area as an appropriate location for intensive OHV activity. The plan further mandated the writing of a recreation plan for its proper management.

Located in the midst of the Mojave Desert, the Rasor OHV Area contains diverse terrain, ideal for sand-area OHV recreation. The area offers other recreational activities as well, including rock hounding, wildlife observation, sightseeing, photography, hiking, and rock climbing.

The goal of public input is to assess a variety of issues and proposed solutions. Comments and concerns regarding land use, off-highway vehicle area access, visitor services, off-highway vehicle recreational opportunities, facilities, resource values, and monitoring are welcomed.

A public meeting will be held on Thursday, May 12, 5:30 p.m.

There are also three rides scheduled to visit the Rasor Road OHV area and identify the areas that are used for riding, camping, assess habits the usage and general conditions of the area. The public is encouraged to participate.
