To All Alberta Four Wheelers:

We all know or should know what has happened in both the Ghost-Waiprous and the Prairie Creek areas. There are several factions that are systematically working to shut down our 4x4 access across the province. Part of their success has to be attributed to the fact that we as 4x4 enthusiasts have not ensured our presence "at the table".

Unfortunately, it appears that the provincial Tory government may again, without our participation, input or feedback, move ahead with plans that impact us, as detailed in this link. http://www.gov.ab.ca/acn/200601/1936121BAF...9F25A58EE2.html

Therefore we need to move exceedingly quickly on these issues. With that in mind, Peter Straub and Dan Torrance have initiated the revival of the Alberta Four Wheel Drive Association. The intent of this association will be to act as a unified voice for the currently unrepresented 4x4 enthusiasts and 4x4 clubs of Alberta. Yes you did read the word "revival". There were numerous advantages to reviving a previously existing name/organization. These advantages are covered in more detail on the new website.

I know that you have many questions. Questions are a good thing. We hope that many of your questions regarding the rebuilding and the intent of this association are covered in the new website.

However, at this time I need to be very clear on 2 points:

1) The focus of the Alberta Four Wheel Drive Association will be to represent Alberta 4x4 enthusiasts and 4x4 clubs only.

2) There is NO MORE TIME for debate. It is TIME FOR ACTION.

We are going to need to lot of help to preserve our sport (wheeling is almost more of a life style than a sport) and we will be looking to all members of all clubs and indeed all Alberta wheelers, to do everything that they can to help. A united and concerted effort on the part of every single wheeler in Alberta will be the only means of retaining what we all treasure and love.

The first thing you can do to help is to cascade this message to every 4x4 club and enthusiast in the Alberta. Post the message our your websites and in your forums. Go to the Alberta Four Wheel Drive website ( www.ab4wd.com )and learn about the issues and what you can do to help. Bring this topic to the floor at your club meetings and select your club representatives. Make sure that you as an individual also join the Alberta Four Wheel Association.

The more voices we represent the better we will be heard.

Hello Peter, and thank you for making your stand for four wheeling. While it is essentially only something that Canadian's in the Alberta region can really argue for, the world of four wheeling is always willing to help if it can.

The powerful effect of groups getting together have been seen recently in Southern Africa www.now.org.za  Things can be achieved if there's the will to do it.

There is wealth of experience among the UFWDA member organisations and possibly the most experienced in the world is the Austrailian national body ANFWDC. (not denigrating any US 4x4 group but the Aussies have been extraordrinary in their efforts for their recreation)

I look forward to seeing a revived Alberta association on the UFWDA international member roster
and in the meantime keep us informed on the progess in rounding up the support for our recreation.

And thank-you Peter!

Once we get through our revival process and established again as an active body in the Province, we'll certainly be looking to establish working partnerships with all manner of organizations such as United, and other OHV advocacy and stewardship user groups locally and internationally.

WHAT IS HAPPENING?
Alberta Four Wheel Drive will be holding a general meeting on March 28,
2006, at 7PM. The agenda will include elections for executive positions,
setting membership fees, and accepting revised bylaws, as well as
discussing policies and activities to advance the mission of Alberta
Four Wheel Drive Association.

WHO CAN ATTEND?
You must be a 'Delegate' to attend the meeting. A Delegate is a person
appointed by a member club. The number of delegates for each club
depends on how many members are in your club.
1-10 members: 1 Delegate
11-30: 2 Delegates
31+, 3 Delegates.

Make sure your club is signed up, and assigns delegates to attend this
meeting. Sign up at http://www.ab4wd.com/Join.aspx

If you're not a member of a club, you can still be a delegate and attend
the meeting. Member at Large Delegate positions will be created based on
the number of non-club members signed up. If you are not a part of a
club, but want to get involved and be a Member at Large Delegate, please
volunteer by contacting: info@ab4wd.com

WHERE IS THE MEETING?
To ensure inclusion of all interested four wheelers across the province,
the meeting will be held via teleconference. The teleconference details
will be e-mailed directly to the Club Delegates and Member at Large
Delegates.

THEN WHAT?
Keep watching www.ab4wd.com for information about what we're doing, and
what you can do to ensure safe and sustainable four wheeling in Alberta.

Does anyone have information about how the Alberta meeting on March 28 turned out? I'd be happy to include a report or whatever in the April UFWDA e-news if it could be sent by April 10.
