Are those dates correct?  Thur, Fri, and Sat, with the kids in school?  Just double checking.

We will be wheeling on Friday and Saturday, just like the VA4WDA Trail Ride.

Sounds good.  I will have to make some time on my schedule for this.  Can't miss a ride in what feels like my backyard.

I think a bunch of us have spent more time working on Oak Ridge this year than we've spent working on our own back yards.

I am sure as we get closer to this event, we will be looking for trail guides for this event.

This is a ways away, and I am sure Marti and Carla can work this out.
Carla has contacts all ready, and I am sure many of those same people will step up to help again.

I am looking forward to it, as I am going to make plans to come out.  Will have to see if I can rent a jeep though.
Get a dealer's Demo for a test drive!  Bring it back all muddy.

Todd,

I am happy to hear you are going to make it, I hope all of the board will be able to come out!
You are correct about Carla and the trail guide list. Carla and Chris Boucher will be coordinating the trail guides. I am sure that Galen will be asked to trail guide, especially if he is more familiar with Oak Ridge than his own back yard! ;D

Marti, Didn't say I was "more familiar" with Oak Ridge....Just that I've spent more time working on OR than my own backyard  ;D As I have with the last 3 JJUSA's, 4 VA4WDA Annual Trail Rides and this years Camp Jeep. I'll throw my name into the hat to act as trail guide.  ;)

Todd, Not many dealers out this way that will let you take a Jeep for the weekend, but it would be worth a try. Maybe Chris and Carla could pull some weight with Jeep Corp. and get you a factory loaner.  ::) Whatever you do, come on out. If nothing else we can find you a shotgun seat. Or a personal loaner Jeep.

I would take a seat with someone.

Maybe things will change, and I will be able to drive out with my jeep.
we will see what the Navy has planned for me.

We had a lady this year at Jeep Jamboree drive her Liberty out from California. 2800 miles one way. Might as well make a trip out of it. I think a couple of the car rentals have libertys, grands and commanders to rent, but ask the Bouchers how that went over in WI :) JEEP used the local Jeep dealership as headquaters for staging out some private events, Battlefield Ford Jeep (434-977-7960) in CHarlottesville, might give them a call, Say Uniteds in town and needs transportation :) See if you can hook up a guide with one too :)

I can pull all of my own body weight (keep your comments to yourselves please) with Jeep.  But that won't produce a Jeep for Todd to drive.  ;D

We can scare something up from the official Chesapeake Jeep Museum at our house.  That probably won't produce a Jeep for Todd either, well one that runs and stops, ha, ha.

I would be all right with riding with someone.  Just not as fun that way.

I am a good spotter, and can do that for someone as a passenger if needed.

If Jeep was to loan me one, it would never be the same, and they would probably stop giving out loaners to us.

I have this on my calendar of events to attend, as I think we need to be here.

This sounds great. Count me in for this one. I can also throw my name in the hat as a guide. I allot of fun doing it at CJ.

Todd, I am retired from the Coast Guard and if you needed to ride shutgun with someone, I would be more than happly to let a "Navy Man" ride along. LOL

Can't wait to see everyone there again.

Todd yes i am active at least for another 13 months. I retire in Oct 08. I am on the Carl Vinson in the ship yards right now. Normal job is an AE but right now we are just janitors. Oh well, i picked it. I talked with Chris this weekend and it sounds like they got alot going with this one. So i can't wait to get out there and try out my freshly rebuilt shoulder. I will be guiding for sure.

Thanks

I was on the Carl Vinson years ago for a couple of cruises.  Fun times.
I was also ships company for 2 years with AIMD, and ran the EA-6B Vans complex.  I am an AT that people think is a little different because I do not play with computers all the time and wrench on my own jeep.

This Wheel-in will be fun, and I am looking forward to it.

Thanks

Since the Commando worked "almost perfectly" this weekend, I'll have 2 trail rigs come April. Might be convinced to drag the YJ up along with the C104...Just gotta figure out how to get them both on the 16' trailer. :o

Pardon my ignorance if this has been covered and I've missed it somewhere, but I have a couple questions.  Will there be a vehicle limit for the event?  And will there be camping in the field as with the VA4WD annual run?  I guess I'm just trying to figure out what to expect, as in will this event mirror our annual run, or something huge like Camp Jeep with hundreds and no camping.
Title: Re: United Four Wheel Drive Associations Wheel-in

Keith,
There will be no camping on site.  The vehicle limit is still under discussion I believe.

Thanks for your questions.

There is a vehicle limit, and I do not want to quote a number right now, as I do not remember it.
Marti can probably answer that later though.

We hope that this is a huge event like Camp Jeep.  our goal at least.

Thanks

Keith,

The vehicle limit is still being discussed. We would like for it to be a large event and still give everyone the opportunity to run most, if not all of the trails at Oak Ridge. We will have to wait and see what kind of response we get when the registration begins. I would definitely sign up as soon as possible when the registration opens to make sure you get a spot. More details will be given at this site as time goes on.

I'm new to the board, and yes I feel dumb for not checking the 1st post. I'll be driving down from Amish country in Pa, this will be my first big event. I hit 2 jeeps shows this year(York being the biggest), and am looking forward to coming down there. I'm trying to get a few co-workers to bring thier Jeeps as well.

Way cool idea.  Can't wait for it.  If the numbers exceed the capacity of Oak Ridge there is Crozet right up the road for spill over

Title: Re: United Four Wheel Drive Associations Wheel-in

Yeah, but I understand Crozet is only good for 40 vehicles.
Title: Re: United Four Wheel Drive Associations Wheel-in
Post by: BEN WOOD on October 01, 2007, 01:59:54 pm
And Crozet is a private venue and they just recently changed their rules for wheeln there. I think there will be a limit before there is a spill over and having people drive OFF site to wheel.

Title: Re: United Four Wheel Drive Associations Wheel-in
Post by: John Cuoghi on October 13, 2007, 07:42:49 am
Instead of having a spill over to Crozier, how about having a difficult run there and limiting it to 25 vehicles.  That way there is a run that is much more challenging than Oak Ridge can provide.  They can run the more difficult trails at Oak Ridge the first day and then Crozier the second day.  That will clear up the difficult trails for the second day.
Title: Re: United Four Wheel Drive Associations Wheel-in

The coordinators are working with Oak Ridge only.  Nothing has been setup with Crozet management.

Good day all,
Just wanted to clarify some stuff.

There will be no camping on Oak Ridge property (unlike the annual run)?

The Oct 30th is still the date for the registration to start?

I take it that the registration form will be found here, or a link to it?

And what might be the vehicle limit.

Thanks for clarifying this info, since this is the only place I’ve found any info about this event, and I want to pass the info on.

Thanks

John,
Thanks for asking. There will be no camping at Oak Ridge. Registration is still on track for October 30th and there will be a link for members and non-members on the website. The vehicle limit is still being determined. Watch this thread and when we decide on the number I will post it here. The best thing to do is to sign up as soon as the registration begins to make sure you secure your spot. Hope to see you there!

Jennifer- I would like to put something together for the publication if it is not too late. If you could let me know what you need or if you would like to have the pdf for the ad I can email that to you. As Amanda mentioned, I am at SEMA this week and have not been checking the forums, however, I could put something together for you tonight. Thank you for the opportunity.

Jason- What kind of music do they play and what is the contact information for them. I was going to talk to Terri Allard who is a friend of mine that plays a variety of music and is big on the local scene, however, that is not written in stone so if you could give me a little more information in a private message that would be great.Thanks.

David Gilmore raises an interesting point.  It never occured to me that my wife would not be included under my signup/fee.  Do I need to sign-up her up separate?  Is she covered under my membership for the discount?

If she included under me after all, how do I get a tee shirt for her? Will it be tie-dyed?

Thanks,

Registered.

I too was thinking that the registration fee was per vehicle.  If it is per person, I need to know soon so I can decide if I need to register anyone else.

Plus, now that the registration form is on line, you can't look at the flyer for details.  Realize that some things still need to be worked out, but those registering now or registering on blind faith.  Beside the obvious t-shirt and trail riding, what is my money covering?

Reading the flier, it's not clear if the registration is individual, per vehicle or family. I always hope for family or per vehicle, so I can keep my family involved in my hobby. I like to think this is a family event. I can definitely see charging for extra meals and t-shirts, however.

Hi ALL!
The registration fee is per vehicle (that means it covers the number of occupants for which you have seatbelts) Additional vehicle occupants who are not the driver will not receive a meal ticket or t-shirt, however, they may purchase t-shirts or meal tickets. Details for purchasing additional t-shirts and meal tickets will be posted soon. Please post any questions that you may have, I will get back to you as soon as possible. I apologize for not getting back to you sooner, my DSL was down. Thank you for your patience.

We're registered!  Yeah!  But, I have a question.  When I registered as a member and said I'd pay by check, the initial confirmation came back asking me to send a check for $75, not $65.  Did I miss something along the way?

Lu Anne (and everyone),

Late yesterday we noticed an error on the "online" registration page.  The CORRECT price for UFWDA Members _IS_ $75.  The correct price for non-UFWDA members is $105.  Since it was a mistake on our end and yesterday was a day earlier than we had anticipated for online-registration to actually be up and running, those of you who got registered yesterday got an "early bird special" and UFWDA will "eat" the $10.

Please remember everyone - this is a fundraiser for UFWDA.  For all intents and purposes we may not make a dime - we may just break even.  Time will tell.  Much depends on how many people show up - how many raffle tickets get purchased - etc. - etc. - etc.

Marti Pugh, the first ever Business Development Manager for UFWDA set out to provide UFWDA members with something FUN!  We are working hard to ensure that FUN is what happens.  This is our first ever trail ride.  Although many of the names and faces are familiar to you from Camp Jeep or possibly the Virginia annual ride, please keep in mind those of us here at UFWDA are new at this and doing our best.  We are eternally grateful for the help and advice of more experienced "trail ride" gurus - like Chris Boucher.

Thanks to everyone so far - for signing up - and for your questions, comments and feedback.  We will be putting up a FAQs thread very soon to help with some of the other Qs&As along the way.

Melissa

Don't worry, United will get their $10 back from me (and then some) in the raffle.  That's where the big money is to be made!

OK, I got registered!  THANKS Melissa!

I too will spend bucks on raffle and extra T-Shirts!  (Hope they look good!)

I am really looking forward to this event like all events at Oak Ridge!

Thanks for the clarifications...

You'll definitely make it up on me in the raffle, too.

Hey Folks. I have a few questions. Will we be wheeling all 3 days? Will we be wheeling all the trails like at the Annual? Is there a limit to the number of participants? Is there a hotel that UFWDA recommends, and do they give a discount to participants?

Thanks,
Be well,
Richard

I have 2 answers for you...

We will be wheeling Friday and Saturday.

We will be running the Oak Ridge trail system in loop fashion, just like the Oak Ridge Jeep Jamboree and the VA4WDA Trail Ride.

For lodging, check out http://www.nelsoncounty.com/visit/lodging

This is a listing for Nelson County.  If your looking for a Holiday Inns or Best Westerns, you will have to drive to: Charlottesville to the north, Lynchburg to the south and Waynesboro to the north west, ALL within a 30min drive.

Richard,
It is really up to you whether you come out Thursday or Friday. Registration will begin Thursday and there will be Vendors there to look at. However, the registration was not going to begin until after 4:00p.m.. We are going to post several new threads today about the Wheel-in (FAQ's, lodging etc.). These should cover all of the questions you may have, however, if yo have any questions please feel free to post them and I will answer the best I can. Thank you for signing up and supporting UFWDA. Hope to see you there.

Well, you started it Pete, so let's get going.  If you would like to volunteer to be a trail guide (specify lead or tailgunner) please e-mail me direct at toynrnd@cox.net and we'll start putting a list together.

Chris,

I emailed direct as instructed.  I have not heard anything back yet.  Shall I continue to be patient?

Thanks,
Richard

How can I be so behind already for an event that is 5 months away?  I plan to contact those that volunteered hopefully this weekend by e-mail to get things rolling.  Thank you for your continued patience!

Sounds like you got an eager bunch ready to go Chris, and I just aired up and reconnected from the last run :) Glad AIR is free unlike GAS.... Ben (who finally mastered the UFWDA registration form)

Unless you use CO2!

I pay $13.00 for a 15lb bottle here in Cali.
Paid $21.00 in Vegas while there for SEMA.

Yes it is still open.

On a related note, why is the CC payment option not secure for the wheel-in registration?  The online store payment is but not the wheel-in.  Personally, I ended up paying by check because of it.

This problem has been corrected.
