FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Forest Service law enforcement is looking for information related to sharpened rebar that was purposely placed on and near roads in the Happy Jack area.

At least five pieces of spiked rebar were placed on a forest road this past weekend. The rebar slashed at least eight car tires. The rebar appears to be placed in areas that are frequently traversed by off-highway vehicles (OHV), according to a Forest Service release.

Ranger Linda Wadleigh said in a statement that the end of the rebar has been sharpened to a point and painted to blend in with the surface of the road. Wadleigh also said that the rebar is a threat to anyone in the area and to wildlife, not just to drivers.

Anyone with knowledge of the situation or information on who may be placing the rebar is encouraged to contact Forest Service law enforcement at (928) 527-3511.
