Anabele Cornejo, Asst. Public Affairs Officer, (858) 674-2985

San Diego, CA -July 12, 2007...The Cleveland National Forest is hosting five public open houses starting July 23rd in Alpine and ending August 1st in San Juan Capistrano, to provide an update on Land Management Planning (LMP) implementation by sharing information on upcoming projects and asking the public to provide input on some projects currently under consideration.

In addition, the Forest would like to share two reports related to projects and activities implemented last fiscal year. One is the Cleveland's Annual Report and the other is the Forest LMP Monitoring and Evaluation Report. This report describes the findings of a team who monitored projects and activities in accordance with the new LMP. The Forest will be asking for the public's input at these open houses on two planning efforts that are currently underway: the Route Designation process, the public will have an opportunity to review maps of roads and trails that are currently authorized for motor vehicle use and maps of potential additions to the current authorized system; and the Proposed Seasonal Closure to Protect Nesting Raptors Project, the public will also have an opportunity to review the preliminary alternatives that have been identified for this project and will be invited to comment on whether the current range of preliminary alternatives addresses their concerns.
