I just read this on Pirate, If you write a letter to save a trail (like we should be doing anyway) you can win $250 at any vendor at the Pirate web page. Sounds like a good deal.

A grass roots ground swell is always a great thing.  And letter writing to affect change is a valuable undertaking.  But be careful and use caution.  If you have, or will be, writing your own personalized letter in addition to the letter-generator at, please do not use that letter-generator.  I am very concerned that anti-access groups will diminish the value of your substantive and personal comments by claiming that the four wheel drive community is writing comments merely in order to “have a chance to win”.  The anti-access organizations will turn a decent and proper ground swell of public involvement through the site into a circus where 4x4 enthusiasts are accused of writing letters for money and not because they care about the future of an area as a valid stakeholder.

So, if you are going to write substantive and personal comments and get involved in local planning, please do not use the letter generator at for issues connected to the $250 give-away.  Do not give the anti-access organizations ammunition for a smear campaign.

Thank you,
