The public is invited to weigh in on several grant applications for area hiking, biking and off-highway vehicle trails in the state, including a few in the Helena area.

Montana State Parks is seeking comment to dispense about $1.3 million among 69 applicants seeking a total of about $2.8 million in its Recreational Trails Program. It also must award about $160,000 among 14 applicants seeking $293,000 in its OHV program.

In Helena, the city is asking for $60,000 to help purchase materials for a 3,500-foot loop trail around the Donaldson property, the 35-acre parcel just south of Saddle Drive thatís largely undeveloped but includes an 18-target disc golf course constructed by volunteers last year.

If completed, that trail would include a 75-foot bridge spanning a dry gulch in the middle of the property, and would be accessible to people in wheelchairs.
