WOHVA Update January ‘13
Every month WOHVA provides our members and other motorized trail recreation advocates with this short synopsis of WOHVA’s efforts to proactively assure that environmentally responsible OHV recreational opportunities are expanded here the Badger State.  Check out what WOHVA was working on as the year came to a close.

WOHVA participated in the TrailCon USA 2013 Initial Planning Meeting in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin.  TrailCon is a trail conference that focuses on bringing various trail users together to better understand their collective strengths and challenges.  TrailCon USA 2013 will be held on August 9th & 10th in Antigo, Wisconsin.

The WOHVA Board of Directors held their regular bi-monthly meeting in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  WOHVA Individual Members can review the agenda, minutes, financial reports and other documents pertaining to all Board Meetings in the WOHVA Updates Forum located in the Forums Section of the WOHVA website.

In conjunction with the Wisconsin Off-Road Vehicle Park, Inc. (WORVPI), WOHVA is working with North Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (NCWRPC) on an extensive Feasibility Study to direct establishing a 10,000 acre Badger State Motorized Recreation Area (MRA).  Last month a special project team from WORVPI met weekly with their consultants drafting the Forest County Motorized Recreation Area Feasibility Study. This is a six part study.  Delivery of the completed study is expected in the very near future.  WOHVA is excited to be on the forefront, representing Badger State motorized trail riding enthusiasts, on this and other advocacy projects.

WOHVA participated in the regular monthly meeting for the Wisconsin Off-Road Vehicle Park, Inc. (WORVPI).  Regular updates on WORVPI (including meeting agenda & minutes) and all WOHVA special projects can be found in the “Projects” window located on the WOHVA Webpage.  Project Updates are available to WOHVA Individual Members on-line and are provided quarterly to WOHVA Supporting Groups and clubs/organizations that have expressed interest by contacting WOHVA and offering their assistance in helping WOHVA expand OHV opportunities here in the Badger State.  Visit the newly launched WORVPI web site at

WOHVA met with Capitol Staffers to review the DRAFT 4WD Sticker Program Legislation from the Wisconsin Legislative Reference Bureau.  WOHVA’s Legislative Action Committee met and reviewed this DRAFT and this meeting served to facilitate submitting our thoughts and comments on the DRAFT.  WOHVA anticipates the legislation to be introduced early next session (which begins in January 2013).

WOHVA participated in a meeting held by the Forest Resources Association’s Lake States Policy Committee (LSPC) at the Grand Lodge in Wausau, Wisconsin.  The LSPC promotes the economical, efficient, and sustainable use of forest resources in the Upper Great Lakes.  The purpose of the meeting was to discuss emerging 2013 regulatory issues in our forests.  WOHVA was pleased to be part of this proactive approach to addressing forest issues which impact industrial and recreational access to forest in our region.  It’s important to remember that limitations restricting motorized access to lands negatively impact a wide variety of forest stakeholders.

WOHVA recently received an update on this project.  Effective December 10th, 2012, the Ottawa National Forest has issued a Decision Notice and Finding of No Significant Impact (DN/FONSI) for the Eastern Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Connector Route Project.  The Alternative chosen was Alternative 2 and was the Alternative which WOHVA had endorsed throughout this process.  This decision will increase motorized recreational trail access throughout the Ottawa and serve to enhance trail access across Michigan’s UP.  Special thanks go out to all those WOHVA Members who took the time to submit comments on this project.
