A BRC Action Alert

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Utah St. George Field Office is now accepting public comments on a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) analyzing two Draft Resource Management Plans (RMPs) and a Draft Amendment to the current St. George Field Office RMP.

On March 20, 2009, the President signed into law H.R. 146, the Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009, which created the Red Cliffs and Beaver Dam Wash National Conservation Areas (NCAs) and directed the Secretary of the Interior, through the BLM, to develop comprehensive plans for the long-term management of the two NCAs.  The legislation also required the BLM to take actions and make land use allocations on public lands in Washington County that necessitate amending the St. George Field Office Record of Decision and RMP.  The purpose of this Environmental Impact Statement and planning process is to satisfy these mandates.

BRC is urging local users to review Alternative B (the agency preferred alternative) with a focus on how it might impact important roads and trails that provide a quality experience, act as a connector or provide a looped opportunity.  Additionally, please add a comment if your club plans to utilize designated routes for permitted OHV events.

The 90-day public comment period for the Draft RMPs, Draft RMP Amendment and Draft EIS began on July 16, 2015, and will close October 15, 2015.

The Draft RMPs, Draft RMP Amendment, and Draft EIS are available online for public review at:

Written comments will be accepted by letter or email until Oct. 15, 2015.  Please note that the most useful comments are those that contain new technical or scientific information relevant to the proposed action.  Comments should be as specific as possible.  Comments which contain only opinions or preferences will not receive a formal response but may be considered in the BLM decision-making process.  Please reference "NCA RMPs" when submitting comments.
